| The consultation’s closed; what happens next? |

WRVS chief executive Lynne Berry has thanked all staff and volunteers who contributed to the consultation on organisation change, which closed on July 17. She said that the initial assessment shows there is overwhelming support for the general direction of the proposals. Everyone is committed to an integrated organisation with a common purpose that is organised around a structure based on the regions in England, and that recognises devolution in Scotland and Wales. At the same time there have been many thoughtful contributions about detailed aspects of the plan and some helpful suggestions about how these ends could be achieved in different ways.
Lynne and the executive team will now be reviewing all the contributions and will no doubt be refining the proposals for the implementation of the strategy. Lynne will be presenting the findings to the trustees in September and they will then communicate the outcome to everyone in the organisation. The new director for older people's services, Angela Geer, will lead the consideration of the issues raised about organisational arrangements (roles and remits) before we move to the next stage, which is to populate that structure, in September. This may mean there are some minor implications for the detailed timetable set out in the consultation document — but the end point remains the same. WRVS still expects to be able to operate the new structure from April 1 2010 at the latest. As Lynne said, ‘What the process has underlined is the depth of knowledge, understanding and passion that resides within WRVS today. This is a valuable resource and I am determined to keep tapping into it as we set about shaping WRVS’ future together.’ |
